Exercise is something which you should feel like doing it, if you are not comfortable with the morning routine, then it is not necessary that you have to start your workout routine in the morning like the others.
Finding the perfect time for your exercise is equally essential as doing your workout routine. Exercise is meant to make you feel good, but if your muscles aren’t only supporting you in the morning, then it is of no benefit to do the exercise. An exercise done without any interest, leads to ineffectiveness.
Over the years, word of mouth and advertisements have touted the benefits of an early morning workout session, but if you are not a morning person and cannot fit in this habit, then don’t worry. Research suggests that our body is capable of adapting to any kind of regular gym timings, that means, if you hit the gym room around 3 p.m., your body will be able to perform much better at that time than any other time. According to early research, sticking to a specific time always results in better performance, with higher oxygen consumption and lower perceived exhaustion. But as easy as it sounds, choosing a specific time for your workout is sometimes a complicated decision to make.
The main factor that determines the quality of the exercise is the body’s core temperature. If the body is cool, it leaves the muscles stiff, unprepared, and cause sprains, whereas higher body temperatures leave muscles more relaxed and flexible.
A human body temperature increases throughout the day, so it is factual that your muscle strength and endurance may peak by the time you hit the gym in the afternoon, when the body temperature is at its highest.
The afternoon time is also great for improving the performance and reducing the injuries, as it’s this time when the reaction time is at its quickest and blood pressure and heart rate are at lowest.
Even the hormone levels are important during an afternoon workout session. As Testosterone is important for strength and muscle growth, the body produces more testosterone during the late afternoon resistance training than it does during the morning sessions. Also, the stress hormone known as cortisol, that supports in the storage of fat and reduction of muscle tissue, peaks during the morning hours and slowly decreases throughout the day and in the middle of the exercise. But if you are a morning bird, then don’t take stress, because a morning routine can also be equally successful if done right.
The perks of a morning routine are that it is consistent and you don’t really have other excuses sitting on the corner, like skipping the afternoon session for a movie or a brunch with your friends that usually ends up working against the intentions of being fit for any gym-goer’s.
Morning workout routines are a great option for a stress-free snoozing. As exercise increases the level of body temperature and heart rate, exercising late in the evening might disturb your sleep. A study showed that working out at 7 a.m. in the morning helps in better sleeping in the night compared to 1 p.m. or 7 p.m. workout sessions.
The study has also found that a 45 minutes of an average morning exercise like running or walking in the fast pace on a treadmill, have helped the curb appetite directly after workout. Research has also shown that a person can burn up to 20% more fat when they exercise on an empty stomach than after having breakfast or lunch.
At last, finding a perfect time that will work according to your schedule is more important than agreeing what is benefiting you. If you think that a morning session is the best time for you then go for it, but make sure that you warm up your cold and tight muscles from sleep. And if you are more of an afternoon/evening person, then treat your sessions as an important appointment, or even a better option is to find a workout buddy that doesn’t make excuses.
